SUMMARY:A Relational Approach to working with Confusion and Deconfusion - Heather Fowlie TSTA
DESCRIPTION:This seminar provides the opportunity to discuss a relational approach to working with confusion based on a T AJ paper\, “Confusion and introjection: A model for understanding the defensive structure of the Parent and Child ego states”. \nChildhood trauma often involves experiences that have been unbearable for the young mind to assimilate. Confusion\, a child’s natural and creative response to the aftermath of that trauma\, enables them to stay connected to the caregiver on whom they depend. However\, the protective defensive system they develop to ensure continued connection\, whilst brilliant\, can also profoundly impact their relationships with themselves and others. A relational approach to deconfusion\, centers on how the therapist and client re-engage with that system to explore\, unearth\, challenge\, and deconfuse the protective defensive system and the confusion that lies at its core. \nHeather Fowlie is a TSTA working in private practice as a psychotherapist\, supervisor and trainer in Surrey. She is a founder member of IARTA and is particularly interested in integrating other models of psychotherapy\, especially object relations within a relational approach to transactional analysis. \nThis event is primarily aimed at students/trainees from the Psychotherapy Field.\nIARTA members £15 – Non- members £30.00 \nTicket sales will end Wednesday 9th November at 12 noon.

SUMMARY:IARTA's Annual Conference 2022 with Karen J. Maroda\, Ph.D - Online Event - Saturday 26th Nov
DESCRIPTION:This year IARTA’s Annual Conference will be an Online Event – 26th November 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm GMT \nThe therapist’s vulnerability and its implications for treatment. Karen J. Maroda\, Ph.D \nWhat are the early childhood experiences that therapists have in common and how does this affect our way of thinking\, feeling and behaving with our clients?  This presentation focuses on both the strengths and weaknesses that arise from being the “healing other” in our families of origin.  To what extent do we avoid conflict\, remain too passive\, and infantilize our patients because of our own childhood roles? Do we use our ability to be sensitive and empathic too exclusively\, avoiding confrontation and negative feedback? \nThis presentation focuses on our often-neglected needs\, desires\, fears and defences\, offering a model of working with clients that underscores vulnerability in the service of promoting the client’s growth and sense of agency. This workshop will include a keynote and large and small group discussions. \nKaren J. Maroda\, Ph.D.\, ABBP\, is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry\, Medical College of Wisconsin and in private practice in Milwaukee\, WI. She is board certified in psychoanalysis by the American Board of Professional Psychology\, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Board and Academy of Psychoanalysis.  The author of four books\, The Power of Countertransference\, Seduction\, Surrender and Transformation\, Psychodynamic Techniques\, and The Analyst’s Vulnerability\, as well as numerous journal articles and book reviews.  She also sits on the editorial boards of Psychoanalytic Psychology and Contemporary Psychoanalysis. She gives lectures and workshops both nationally and internationally. \n\n\n\nThis event is primarily aimed at those from the Psychotherapy Field. \n\n\n\n  \nIARTA’s Annual Conference 2022 \nTimings  –  Online Event – Saturday 26th November – 2pm to 6pm GMT \nTicket sales will end on Friday 25th November at 12 noon. \n
