DESCRIPTION:Radical Psychiatry is a lost tradition in TA. Although recognised as one of the early “Schools” of TA\, it is rarely taught and little understood. In this Webinar\, I will present a brief history of radical psychiatry\, and outline its main theory and practice\, based on an analysis of power and oppression. I will also make connections between radical psychiatry and other aspects of TA.  \nBackground reading: TA and politics\, Tudor\, K. (Ed.). (2020). Claude Steiner\, emotional activist: The life and work of Claude Michel Steiner. Routledge.  \nKeith Tudor\, PhD\, CQSW\, Dip. Psychotherapy\, TSTA(P) is professor of psychotherapy at Auckland University of Technology\, Aotearoa New Zealand. He was a founder member of the IARTA and contributed to the formulation of its relational principles. SUMMARY:Trauma\, disorganised attachment and dissociative identity disorder - Dr. Valerie Sinason
DESCRIPTION:Children and adults with dissociative identity disorders (DID) have been largely misdiagnosed or undiagnosed despite the presence of this condition in all the international psychiatric classifications. Given the success of such rare treatments how and why has this happened? This workshop with explore the key elements that underpin DID – namely trauma at a young age combined with a disorganised attachment. Additionally\, DID\, multiple personality states\, threatens the Western concepts of a solid single ego as well as raising fears of legal and police involvement as DID is a creative response to a crime. \nDr Valerie Sinason was Consultant Child Psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic from 1987 to 1999; Consultant Psychotherapist at both the Anna Freud and Portman Clinics and Consultant Research Psychotherapist/Psychoanalyst at St George’s Hospital Medical School. Valerie founded the Clinic for Dissociative Studies in 1998 and has retained a consultant post there along with several other Consultancy since her retirement in 2016. In April 2016\, Dr Sinason was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the ISSTD (International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation). In 2017\, she was made a Fellow of the ISSTD and in January 2019 she was elected to their Board of Directors. Dr Sinason’s extensive writing includes over 100 published\, peer-reviewed papers.
