SUMMARY:Alienation: Radical and Relational Perspectives   Karen Minikin
DESCRIPTION:Alienation is rooted in Marxist philosophy and is the premise for the cause of psychological and social difficulties.  It has been a key idea in explaining a missing element in relational transference theories. The theory of alienation has accounted for the important and critical role that systemic oppression plays in creating distress\, which has helped me better understand how power dynamics operate intersubjectively. \nDrawing on illustrations and discussion we have the opportunity to explore ideas such as traumatic narcissism\, (Shaw\, 2015) and extractive introjection\, (Bollas\, 1987). This will be a theory and clinical discussion which could help contribute to decolonising thinking. In particular to highlighting how a normative mindset can be enacted clinically and in supervision. \nKaren Minikin is a psychotherapist\, supervisor and trainer (TSTA (P)) currently working in West Somerset and Devon.  She draws on history with personal life experience and uses this in relating to help integrate the psychodynamics of politics and power within a relational framework. She has written on these themes in chapters to books and articles. SUMMARY:Forming and Leading Psychotherapy Groups: An Introductory Learning Opportunity - Mick Landaiche\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:This\, online CPD course is designed to build the confidence of psychotherapy practitioners who wish to facilitate effective psychotherapy groups.  Limited to 10 participants\, it will offer a highly participative learning experience within which we will explore key concepts\, skills\, and practical issues associated with setting up and running therapy groups.  Additionally\, the course seeks to increase participants’ understanding and application of group theory in relation to common group processes and to challenge the long-held belief in the superiority of individual therapy over the restorative power of groups to help clients overcome alienation and isolation.  Ideally\, this course (one of two) will foster an ongoing conversation within our professional community that will support the development of a more robust system of resources for ongoing learning about group work. \nThe course will be held nearly fortnightly on Friday evenings from 18:30h to 20:00h.  Participants are expected to attend all six sessions\, starting 03 February 2023\, with subsequent meeting dates on 17 February\, 03 March\, 17 March\, 07 April\, and 14 April. \nThis online course will be held via Zoom.  Participants will be required to have their cameras on during each course session\, and we ask each person to attend from a private space where others cannot hear the discussions that will occur during the sessions.  The course meetings will not be recorded. \nMichel (Mick) Landaiche III\, Ph.D. has practiced for over 30 years as a psychotherapist and group facilitator\, largely from the object relations and family systems perspectives.  He also provides training and supervision for counselors\, therapists\, and organizational consultants in his hometown\, Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania\, USA\, as well as in Europe.  He is the author of Groups in Transactional Analysis\, Object Relations\, and Family Systems: Studying Ourselves in Collective Life. \nThese courses are open to those from the psychotherapy field and\, as they are already over-subscribed\, are only open to IARTA members.  \nCost £150.00 \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Ego States and Projective Identification - Alistair Berlin
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop will be a presentation of new theory from the recently published TAJ article: Ego States and Projective Identification: A Six Stage Relational Methodology. It will offer a simple and clear understanding of the process of projective identification by considering its three distinct stages. The stages will be visually represented and brought to life through three new ego state diagrams. They will also be illustrated by selected video clips from TV and film which show what the process of projective identification can look like. A relational methodology for working with projective identification will then be presented and explored. The workshop will include group discussions and exercises. \nAlistair is a PTSTA (psychotherapy) who maintains a private practice as a psychotherapist and supervisor in London. He trained at the Metanoia Institute and has taught there for the past two years. His theoretical and clinical focus is on a present-centred\, relational approach to psychotherapy with long-term clients. DESCRIPTION:This four-session\, online CPD course is designed to enable seasoned therapists and supervisors to have a conversation together and case discussions linked to relational theory and ethics and other various themes that emerge when offering relational TA supervision. \nRelational Transactional Analysis clinical practice draws on the wisdom that tells us no two therapeutic relationships are the same. each is unique to itself and requires a different response and approach. Relational TA Supervision is the same.
