Revisiting Ego State Relational Units and Resistance to Change – Ray Little

After nearly 20 years since I first published my ideas and thoughts about relational units, I’ll share my current understanding and application to clinical work. We will examine the internalisation and nature of ego state relational units and their manifestation in the transference-countertransference relationship and their impact on therapy.
In the workshop, we will examine the need to establish a ‘good’ object relationship with the therapist as a foundation for working through the ego state relational units as they emerge in therapy. Participants will be encouraged to share their understanding and questions.
This event is primarily aimed at Students, Trainees and Qualified Practitioners from the Psychotherapy and counselling fields.
Ray Little is a psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer based in Edinburgh, Scotland and is a founding member of IARTA. He has been working as a psychotherapist for over thirty years. The therapeutic focus for Ray is with the transference-countertransference relationship, with the therapeutic method primarily focused on the here-&-now of the therapeutic dyad. Ray won the Eric Berne Memorial Award in 2019 “in recognition of an original and highly significant theoretical and practical contribution made to the field of transactional analysis” (ITAA). This award was made specifically in recognition of three articles, including one entitled: Ego State Relational Units and Resistance to Change (2006).
