Event Overview
Termination has been a problematic word that we inherited from a poorly translated version of Freud’s original work on ending. Nonetheless the work does end and how we conceptualize and then work with that ending is important and necessary for both the patient and the analyst.
This workshop will look at some of the history regarding termination, noting the difficulties and solutions that were being postulated and written about. I will then move into contemporary Relational writings to see how the discussion has been newly addressed and reconceptualized. Focus will be on the intersubjective nature of the therapeutic work and how it may evolve when ending. Case vignettes, from my practice and hopefully from participants, will enable us to examine what is inherently so difficult in ending, including premature endings, breaks, impasses and enactments and sometimes never ending treatment.
This webinar will focus on the psychotherapy field, although other fields may find the discussion of interest.
