Event Overview
This webinar will try to flesh out an intuition: that psychotherapy (group or individual) is better thought of as a kind of soul-seeking and soul-making (Keats), rather than the more usual description of ‘treatment’. It is the mortal, perishable conception of the soul that will be spoken of, not a religious one.
I will draw on the work of the philosophers Martin Buber and Raimond Gait to argue that the ethics of a relational psychotherapy require the therapist to be engaged (rather than detached), transparent (rather than opaque) and responsive (rather than impassive); it requires the therapist to be available to meet and to be met, person to person.
In sum, I will be arguing for a reconfiguration of the relationship between one-who-tries-to-help and the ones-who-come-for-help.
This webinar will focus on the psychotherapy field, although other fields may find the discussion of interest. £24.00 members/£48.00 non-members.
A recording of the event will be made which you can purchase by signing onto the event, but please note, we are only able to issue CPD certificates for those who attend the actual workshop. Please note that in some cases the recording may be edited to ensure confidentiality.
